Panelist: So You Think You Know How to Use Social Media?

Michelle Luhtala started teaching in Brooklyn, NY in 1990 after obtaining a BA in history from New York University. After moving to Connecticut she taught social studies in Bridgeport. She graduated from the Southern Connecticut State University program in 2002 shortly after starting her career as a school librarian at New Canaan High School, where she was appointed Library Department Chair in 2004. In 2008, Michelle launched a hybrid online/on ground instructional program at New Canaan High School, integrating the use of social media and cloud computing. In 2009 and 2010, she presented this model at several regional, national and international conferences and the NCHS program received recognition from several internationally renowned information and communications technology organizations including AASL, CoSN, and ISTE. The Connecticut Library Association honored Michelle with the Outstanding Librarian Award for 2010. Michelle sits on the State Digital Library Advisory Board’s Database Committee, and is a member of the Consortium of School Network’s 2010-2011 Awards Committee.
