8:00 am - 3:00 pm
Designed for LRMI newbies and seasoned veterans alike, this free, post-conference workshop will provide background information and updates on the Learning Resource Metadata Initiative, a project co-led by AEP and Creative Commons to create an education-specific extension of the Schema.org web markup standard. LRMI discussions will include project updates, best practices for aligning to CCSS and other standards, international engagement, challenges to implementation, and processes for evolving the standard.
The workshop will also cover some related and dependent education data projects, including a presentation of SETDA’s forthcoming whitepaper on education data, updates on the A11y accessibility metadata project being led by Benetech, and the latest on the Granular Identifiers and Metadata for the CCSS (GIM-CCSS) that will be completed by SETDA in late May.
The day will wrap up with a hands-on tagging activity that will walk attendees through the LRMI tagging process, from identifying who in your organization should do the tagging, to determining what constitutes an individual resource, to deciding which properties to use and what values to assign. Attendees are encouraged to bring resources (or links to resources) on which they would like to practice tagging or gain insights on how best to tag.
Registration for the LRMI Workshop is free and available to everyone, including CIC registrants and non-registrants. Please register here and look for the Metadata Lab option during checkout.
The 2014 CIC is scheduled for June 2-4 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, DC. Mark your calendars.
